Newmarket’s Racing Royalty Tour

Join us for an enlightening and fascinated guided tour as we unfold the stories of some of our most noted Royals whose strong connections have helped shape Newmarket’s long and illustrious history.  Your tour also includes a visit to Palace House, the former home of Charles II.

This two hour tour runs on set dates throughout the year and is priced at £40 per person and includes admission to the National Horseracing Museum which you can enjoy at leisure in the afternoon, along with a £6 voucher towards refreshments at the Tack Room.

This tour is available to book as a private experience on a date of your choice (subject to availability and a minimum of two people). The historic town of Newmarket is steeped in history and the story of how it became renowned as the home of horseracing, is an intriguing one. Learn about the most noted Royals, from the past 2000 years, who raised the profile of the town as the capital for country pursuits. Where did Charles II come in the very first recorded horse race in history, why were two royal palaces built here and what does the Queen do on her frequent visits to the headquarters of horseracing?

Newmarket has become a mecca for artists and authors as well as celebrities, as they rub shoulders with the royals throughout the ages. Join us for an enlightening and fascinated guided tour and hear about the secrets and scandals of the rich and famous that have helped shape Newmarket into the thoroughbred capital of the world. Your tour will include a visit to Palace House, the former home of Charles II, which now houses an impressive collection of Sporting Art. You will then have free entry to the rest of the Museum complex to enjoy at your leisure as well as a £6 voucher to spend at The Tack Room (the Museum’s onsite cafe).

10 am Meet your guide at The Bill Tutte Memorial where you will begin your walking tour around the streets of Newmarket, retracing the steps of Royalty both past and present.

11.15 am Return to the Museum where you will experience a guided tour of Palace House, the former home of Charles II, displaying an impressive collection of Sporting Art. You will then be given a brief overview of the rest of the Museum complex where you will then be left to enjoy at leisure. Tour also includes a £6 voucher to spend at The Tack Room (the on site cafe at the Museum).

There are currently no public dates scheduled for this tour. However, it is still available to book as a private experience.
