Royal Trainer William Haggas opens his doors for a very special tour.  By kind permission, Discover Newmarket has been given exclusive access for our visitors to go behind the scenes and tour the yard where His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla, have horses in training.

Royal Trainer William Haggas opens his doors for a personal tour of Somerville Lodge. Once again, by kind permission, Discover Newmarket has been given exclusive access for our visitors to go behind the scenes and tour the yard where His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla, have horses in training. You will then be taken to the Gallops by the trainer to see their horses being exercised.

After enjoying brunch at the 2AA rosette restaurant at the Bedford Lodge Hotel you will be taken on a guided tour of the National Stud which includes a Stallion Parade where you will be able to meet the multi group one winning stallion Stradivarius.

Your tour concludes with a visit to the impressive National Horseracing Museum which is located on the former site of King Charles II’s Palace and Stables. Here you will be able to spend the afternoon learning about the fascinating history of the town and how Royalty has played such a huge part in racing throughout the centuries including of course, today. Watch the delightful TV coverage of when the late Queen Elizabeth II won the 2016 Royal Ascot Gold Cup with her horse Estimate and view the Royal Racing silks. Explore the amazing collection of British Sporting Art and meet the resident horses before enjoying a cream tea in the Tack Room, the onsite restaurant.

Six Time Classic-winning trainer, William Haggas is one of the most respected trainers in the headquarters of British racing in Newmarket. Since training his first winner in 1987 he has had over 2,000 winners. 2021 was a record breaking year with over 180 winners including three Group 1’s.

Please note, these are only approximate timings. A confirmed itinerary will be sent 10 days before your tour date.

8.00 am Meet outside the National Horseracing Museum and embark on our Discover Newmarket Tour Bus. Your day begins with a morning driving tour of the home of horseracing taking in the famous sights including some of the hallowed training grounds.

8.30 am Arrive at the Royal Yard where a number of his Majesty’s horses in training reside. Meet the Royal trainer and enjoy a personal behind the scenes tour before heading to the Gallops to watch the yard’s horses go about their daily exercise.

10.00 am Morning brunch at Bedford Lodge Hotel served in their 2AA rosette restaurant.

11.00 am Depart for a guided tour of the National Stud which includes a Stallion Parade

12.45 pm Arrive at the National Horseracing Museum where after a brief overview you will be left to explore this wonderful five acre site at leisure.

2.30 pm Cream Tea at the Tack Room, the Museum’s on site café. The Museum closes at 5 pm..
